It’s been a year since it was first announced, but The Lord of the Rings: Gollum finally dropped a reveal trailer.
As the name suggests, you control the title character. No gameplay has been shown, but according to IGN, the game is going to have a Prince of Persia feel in its stealth-based action. It will also have a sort of RPG feel to it, as well. This is through your actions and whether you want the persona of Gollum or Sméagol as the more dominant role.
It also isn’t deviating from the source material, making it so that no matter what, you end up in the exact place you need to be by the end of the game. Though, to make sure it doesn’t go too stale, they are making some choices hold more weight than others.
They do have to make their own story, though, as there isn’t as much direct material to go off of. There’s no real release date yet, but The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is aiming to launch sometime in 2021 on the next-gen consoles. The timing of all of this could indicate it might be part of 38 games that will be featuring Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 27.
