Stardew Valley has captured the hearts of gamers everywhere as soon as ConcernedApe launched the game alongside indie publisher, Chucklefish, only to go solo with most of its releases later down the line. In the years it’s been around, the developer has been feverously dedicated to try and improve the game with content updates. It seems, though, he might be open to making Stardew Valley 2, but that’s all in the undisclosed future.
While speaking to Game Informer, Eric Barone AKA ConcernedApe noted he is working hard on Stardew Valley’s 1.5 patch but is far from done with it. At this time, though, he isn’t sure what the future of Stardew Valley will be after this latest patch, citing that he’s “not willing to commit to Stardew Valley 1.6.”
He continued by saying that he loves the universe and world and that he’s not sure if he wants to go the route of another patch or if he’ll take a leap and work on a sequel. Though, Barone did make it clear there isn’t a Stardew Valley 2 in the works or anything at this time.
“I will say that I definitely love Stardew Valley. I love it as a world and a universe. I don’t think [1.5] will be the end of Stardew Valley. I would not be surprised if there’s another Stardew Valley update, or multiple updates, or a Stardew Valley 2. Who knows? There’s isn’t currently a Stardew Valley 2; after 1.5, I’ll decide what the next step for Stardew Valley is. But I would say there will probably be another step for Stardew Valley.”
He also seems to want to do some other projects as he’s gone on record noting that he’s working on some solo projects, leaving him with more than enough to fill his time. “In the meantime, I’m also working on a couple of new projects – solo projects – so I have plenty to do.”
