Mere days after Activision-Blizzard made their proud announcement that World of Warcraft’s latest expansion, Shadowlands, was the greatest-selling PC game of all time, they have already been eclipsed. CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077 has not only exceeded their record, but it has also, in a word, utterly smashed it.
WoW: Shadowlands managed to shift 3.7 million copies on its launch day. An impressive feat, to be sure, which Activision Blizzard has claimed is an all-time record. But Cyberpunk 2077 has absolutely destroyed this record after only a few days, seeing a whopping eight million sales on its first day.
Now for those pointing out that Cyberpunk’s sales are across all platforms, while WoW Shadowlands was only referring to PC sales, rest assured, CD Projekt has still won with 4.7 million sales on PC alone.
The majority of Cyberpunk’s sales have been on PC, seeing a 59 percent to 41 percent split between PC and consoles, with more copies being shifted every day, owing to the vast majority of reviews being incredibly positive.
