It seems the new Crash Bandicoot game is looking to up the challenge for the best players. New flashback levels will be included in Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time that take place before the original game. Players can take on a series of levels as Crash and Coco take on test chambers made by… you guessed it – the evil Dr. Neo Cortex. These new levels are accessed through finding VHS tapes in the game and are shown as recordings of old experiments.
It won’t be a cakewalk, however, to access these levels. Developer Lou Studdert revealed in an interview with IGN that the VHS tapes could only be found if you reached them without dying. Yes, this means to get access to challenge levels, you have to already be pretty absurd at Crash games.
This way of getting the VHS tapes is a throwback to the “death routes” of Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back and Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, in which lifts to certain areas could only be accessed with no deaths. So, to even get to these grueling tests in Crash 4, you’ll have to master the regular levels.
With this and other new features coming to Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, we’re excited to see it come to PlayStation 4 later this year. It releases exclusively for PlayStation on October 2.
